The following are links to our Jazz Audition Material!
All performances must be done in person or live via zoom (with audio and video if you can not attend in person).
Auditions will be on May 11th at 2:45 in the RRHS Band Room. We will provide the Mp3 backtracks.
Please make sure to practice the music and improv is optional but highly recommended.
Winds and Melodic Rhythm instruments - you will play the following scales:
Eb, Bb, F, C, G - Concert Pitch ( in swing style Do-bah -do-bah) up the 9th of the scale and back down. No arpeggios.
Chromatic scale- 2 octaves starting note of your choice.
For all Players- You will play the first two choruses of the piece LUNAR or the Stop Time Blues.
(I have attached the main recording of each instrument so it is best to listen to them and mimic their sounds for lunar.)
During the audition, you will not have the play-along but just the backing.
For Drummers- along with Lunar you will also have to demonstrate the following styles:
Swing, Funk, Latin, Rock
